Evan has always been a calm person. Serene, even, his life smooth and unruffled like the untroubled waters of a hidden pond. He prides himself on his unflappability, the imperturable depths of his life. If he can't be disturbed, he can't be hurt.

So Joseph, of course, is a rock tossed into that pond-- no, a meteor falling into an ocean. It's not that Evan can't recover and get his serenity back, but there's a new shape to his life, a new crater to settle into. He's changed, irrevocably, and yeah, it hurts.

But it also feels kind of good.
