Cadmium Yellow 6: Testimony
Author: Kat
Title: Testimony
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Cadmium yellow 6 (Artistic temperment)
Supplies and Materials: Graffiti (Lilith Faire Main Stage, Extraordinary Machine, Fiona Apple), frame, novelty beads (Summer, standing up for herself), oils (trounced)
Word Count: 158
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Summer in court.
Warning: Mentions of murder and suicide.
Notes: Summer is a forensic pathologist.
"And isn't it true," the defense attorney said, swinging around to face Summer, "that your autospy indicated suicide?"
"Initially," Summer said, and opened her mouth to say more, but he trampled right over her words.
"Until the police demanded you revise it!" he trumpeted, raising both his hands and turning to face the jury. "Until you caved to their pressure!"
She gazed coolly at him. Her heart pounded in her chest, but she had practice hiding fear. "No. Until I received the toxicology reports and revised my verdict."
He faltered, turning back to look at her. "Because the police--"
"Because the results changed my mind." She smiled. "My colleagues had nothing to do with it."
The attorney tried to recapture his momentum, but she'd thrown him far enough off that he stumbled, and she got off the stand with no more theatrical shouting in her direction.
All right, she thought, well done, and went back to work.
