College was a relief.

Gina had known that it would be different. On her first visit, she'd seen girls walking together, holding hands, even kissing!- and her mother made a little noise and turned away, and her stomach sank and she put the thoughts out of her mind-

But she was here now, and her mother wasn't, and girls were kissing each other hello and no one was even blinking. She carried her books past a cuddling couple and thought, maybe that could be me, someday. If she was brave enough.

She was starting to think that she could be.
