Casey hated traffic.

Mostly, granted, because she hated driving, which was why Zuri was behind the wheel. But there were other aggrivations. The stink of exhaust and the stop-and-start jerkiness made her carsick, she couldn't see anyone to sign or read lips, and the back end of hundreds of cars wasn't a particularly enthralling view. And Casey hated, above all things, to be bored.

Zuri tapped her arm, and when Casey turned to look at her, signed 'traffic' and rolled her eyes. The cars ahead of them began to move and she quickly put both hands back on the wheel, but it made Casey laugh anyway.

There was Zuri to look at, at least. Her warm red-earth skin and whiskey eyes, the fresh sharp scent of her perfume, the smooth quick movements of her hands-- the cars stopped again. This time, when Zuri looked over, she smiled, and Casey couldn't help smiling back. She was never bored when Zuri was around.

'Penny for your thoughts?' she signed.

'I'm thinking how annoying this traffic is,' Zuri signed back, smiling wider. 'You?'

I'm thinking I never want this traffic to end.

'I'm thinking you're right,' she signed instead, and made Zuri laugh.

That was adorable and relatable--except I rather liked long car trips when I was functionally deaf (I've had surgery in both ears). For one, everyone raised their voices without being asked, and I could actually hear people some of the time. But I'm an introverted potato, it's fun to just sit without being expected to socialize...

I made this all about me, apologies. Zuri sounds gorgeous. I hope I'll find more stories about these two as I read down the comm.

Hee, traffic is awful, but maybe not so much when you have someone gorgeous to look at!
