Constructive criticism is, as always, welcome
She shudders when she looks up to the sky. Darkness. And a blood red glow.
A pained sigh at her side makes her look back. Frey is shivering. His face pale. So very very pale. Sweat running down.
Gently she brushes away the sweat, feels how hot he is. A burning fever. And yet his teeth clatter from the cold.
Alan and Tessa are sleeping next to the little boy. All of them are wounded. All of them are tired. All of them are almost giving up…
There is a loud bang and she looks back up, scared. Very scared. The sky no longer dark and red. But dark and red and purple and orange and yellow.
The other three wielders are still sleeping. But she can’t take her eyes off the sky. And suddenly she feels ice cold. As if an evil Spirit has just run through her body.
She wants to run. Fast. And far away. Even though she knows she can’t. Her body could not move even if she wanted it to. Too hurt. Too tired.
Her breathing is coming out fast and uncontrolled when she feels the Dark Magic all around them. It came suddenly. No warning. Her Element and the Spirits seem to have left her. Left them…
Tears suddenly roll down her face. This is not how it was supposed to end. For she knows that this is it. This is the end. She can feel it…
Another loud bang and she has to close her eyes because of the blinding light that suddenly seems to be everywhere.
She wants to scream, wake everyone up, so she wouldn’t have to face this – the end – alone. But she can’t. Her voice has deserted her. Just like her Dragon has vanished during the last fight. And how her Element and the Spirits are not with her any more.
With her eyes still closed, she turns her body and lays herself down next to Frey. Puts her arm around him, like her mother used to do when she was lying sick in bed.
For a second she smiles. When remembering her mother. Before the heat of the all consuming fire makes her yell…

And with what a story! The despair in this is so palpable, with only the tiniest spark of hope. Well done!

I fully expected/hoped there would a magical saviour, something that would give them back their strength....
Guess I should've read the warning you included at the start ^^;;;;
Noooo, it can't be the end for them.
I'm still searching for the magical saviour to turn up, an epilogue where they find out they were dreaming? In a virtual reality? Anything?

Poor Caithlynn. It's hard to read how everything ends for her, even if it is an AU.
