Warm Light 8, Paris Green 3: Morning

Story: In the Heart

Summary: Christine and Alan on a Sunday morning.
Warnings: none
Notes: Just a happy married couple being happy.
Christine woke slowly on Sunday morning to her husband muttering to himself.
Alan did that sometimes, went over his cases or errands he had to run while he got ready in the morning. She cracked an eye open and caught him buttoning up his shirt, looking himself in the eye and reciting.
"...Krissy's estrogen, Freddie's kneepads, groceries for the week, that thing with the ex-husband..."
She sat up and said, "Don't forget Annelise's flowers."
Alan groaned, and spoke to her without turning around. "I want to forget Anneliese's flowers. She's too young to be graduating."
Christine stretched, and hid a smile in her shoulder. "She's growing up whether you like it or not, hon."
"I don't," he said. "Can you come fix my collar? I'm sure it's twisted."
It wasn't, but she got up anyway, fiddled with the collar so he could pretend she'd done something, then put her arms around him and buried her face between his shoulderblades. He always smelled so good, felt so warm, and she was struck anew by how much she loved this man, her own dear husband.
He let her stay there for a minute or two, then took her hand and kissed it. "Let go, love, I have to go."
"I know," she said, and then, "I love you."
Alan smiled at her in the mirror. "I love you too."
