Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Lillith Faire Second Stage), photography, canvas, acrylic, oils, stain
Word Count: 363
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Shane
Warnings: Adultery, divorce.
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
Shane's marriage had started off well. She and Alex hadn't rushed into things--it wasn't one of those all-consuming intense infatuations that burns out in a week. They'd met, dated for six months, Shane had proposed, they'd had a quiet ceremony just under a year later.
It had lasted fourteen years.
And then she'd found naked pictures of another woman, tucked away behind Alex's vanity while she was cleaning the mirror.
She'd wanted to believe it was just porn. But these were clearly amateur snapshots. Besides, why would Alex have bothered hiding them if that was all?
After a few days of scouring their financials and other sleuthing, it turned out that Alex had been meeting this girl for coffee and sex every Tuesday morning for the past three years. Like clockwork. There had maybe been others; Shane hadn't really wanted to go back further and look. She'd seen enough.
So, she'd promptly filed for divorce, and gone to the doctor to make sure her scumbag soon-to-be ex hadn't given her anything.
Then she'd written a letter to the girl. All evidence indicated that she hadn't known Alex was married, and she deserved better.
Then, Shane had calmly put together all the evidence and sent it to Alex's mother, who had an enormous estate and an extremely rigid sense of propriety.
Petty? Sure. But it beat weeping and agonizing over what the hell she was lacking, or--God forbid--lashing out at the girl instead. She was actually very sweet. The two of them didn't exactly become friends, but they'd kept in touch for a while, even met up for lunch a couple times before the kid had moved away.
And when Alex--whose mistress had left, and whose mother was busy rewriting her will--came crawling back to Shane after their divorce was final, full of apologies and begging for a second chance, she had just laughed. She'd gone out drinking with her friends instead. Good fucking riddance.
Let Alex beg and remain unsatisfied forever. It was three years too late for an apology. As far as Shane was concerned, nothing had happened to her ex that wasn't completely and totally deserved.

Right?? I mean, there probably is an overboard in this situation, but Shane didn't hit it at all...
