For all that Tana had read and studied, for all the research she'd done--oh, holy shit, nothing could have prepared her for the real thing. For opening her eyes after her body's human death and seeing--
It was better than liquor. Better than sex. Better than any high she could possibly imagine. Time sped up; slowed down; burst like a supernova on her enhanced senses. She could hear a heartbeat all the way outside; smell the Chinese food place on the next block; see every detail of her discarded Maker's lair, clear as day.
Not that that was a useful metric anymore.
She punched the wall, just to see what would happen, and giggled when it broke and her hand didn't. She was light and free and strong and beautiful, and didn't have to care anymore about the stupid petty things that had Mattered yesterday, only the real, important ones.
She giggled again, twirling in a shaft of moonlight, fascinated by the way the shadows danced on her skin.
Oh, it was glorious. She never, ever, ever wanted this rush of feeling to end.
Lucky for her, vampirism was eternal, so it absolutely would.

This, uh. This won't end well.

It doesn't. It really, really doesn't. Eventually, Kellom finds out and it's--it's not pretty.
