Some days, Teri's life felt so damn stagnant she wanted to scream. Or crash a party, take her car and just drive and drive and drive for miles--do something dumb and reckless like she used to when she was a kid. Just to feel alive and active again.

And she knew it was probably just, you know--eighteen-month-old at home, girlfriend walked out on her again, dead-end job...She was having a bad year. Freaking out about how she'd make it work if Diane didn't come back this time.

All those reasons she couldn't do something stupid just made her brain itch more.

And then, two weeks after Diane left (and, you know, fuck her anyway, I can do this), Teri was watching the news after giving Nicky his dinner, and they were talking about that terror attack on the CSP station again. She was about to turn it off--didn't want her kid having nightmares--when they finally released the name of the one Human victim.

Who was someone Teri knew. Who was Teri's goddamn ex.

...and, okay, yeah, her brain would probably start clawing at the walls again in the morning, when she dropped Nicky off with the babysitter and went back to her dead-end job and maybe tried calling Diane and had another screaming fight. But right now, staring at Mari-The-Sweet-One's picture on the news...

Stagnant maybe wasn't the worst thing in the world for a second.

Heh, yeah. Teri needs some serious therapy, but it can definitely always be worse.
