Summary: Having a little trouble with this one. Will see where it goes.

Sun went down that evening hard, blistering heat still clinging to the streets and buildings. Curled up in her sheets it was worse, sweating and shaking, but it blunted the sound coming from the living room.

It was quite some time before she heard the clatter of the stones at her window- until something broke. She sat up straight and hopped right out of bed. Allie stood in the street, hands over her mouth.

Tay opened the wondow just a hair, looking down, looking back; the noise filtered through, and she hoped, prayed she didn't have to explain.

"My Mom's got a job, she'll lie for you if we help. Come on, you can stay the night!"

Tay scraped her hair out of her face. The moon was already beginning to rise in the darkened parts of the sky.

"All right, fine. But you'll have to explain the window, too." She slipped out and shimmied down the gutter.

Awww, I love Allie. I get the feeling she knows what's going on, but she won't ever, ever say it. Nice.
