Serving as lookout--standing her watch in the crow's nest--is not Kes's favorite assignment. The solitude up there starts to wear on her quickly.

But she has to admit, something about it makes her not mind so much. Maybe 'cause she's an air-mage, and sensing the currents swirl around her, feeling the mast swaying underneath as the sails catch the wind, watching the birds glide along around her, speaks to something buried deep in her soul.

Not her favorite post, no; but not the worst, either. Because a part of her feels at home up there, even all alone.
