Summary: Nathan and Timothy have a good day.
Notes Yessss, I wrote a thing! I've been writing things, actually, just not for this comm, which I am prolly changing as soon as January is over, if not sooner.
He wakes up alone and it takes him a moment to remember that he didn’t fall asleep that way too. Nathan had been with him. They’d fallen into bed together, curled up and slept to the sound of the TV on low and each other’s breathing.
It had been nice, really nice, but now….
Now he’s alone and he wonders if he did something wrong, if he fucked up somehow. Timothy closes his eyes, trying to slow down his rapidly increasing fear that he somehow messed up thoroughly.
There’s a noise from the kitchen and that helps a little bit. The smell of coffee and the sound of something hitting a hot pan also helps.
Okay, he tells himself. He just got up to make breakfast. That’s okay, that’s not bad. That’s…really sweet, actually.
Rolling onto his back, Timothy runs his hands over his face, breathing slowly for a few moments before he makes himself get up. He’s okay and so is Nathan and god, he needs to stop being so fucking paranoid about things. Unfortunately he has yet to find a way to combat his own head’s intrusive and problematic behavior.
He blinks up at the ceiling for a moment, sighs and finally makes himself get out of bed and into the bathroom to wash the sleep off his face and maybe look like a person. It almost works, despite his body wanting to do nothing more than curl up in bed and try and get Nathan to do the same. He should do more than that, should try and do some work and maybe just exist outside of the bedroom for a while but that seemed so, so daunting.
Beds are easier, beds and sleep and not having to think are all so much easier.
Timothy shakes his head and makes himself leave, heading to the kitchen to catch Nathan and see what calls for breakfast so early (early being 10:30 in the morning but whatever).
“Hey,” he says gently, dropping a quick kiss against Nathan’s shoulder. “I guess this means I don’t get Oreos for breakfast.”
Nate turns, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. “No, you don’t but you can have one or two after.”
That gets him grinning. “Okay,”
They eat breakfast and bullshit a little, Timothy trying to talk out what he has to do for work that day while Nathan listens, occasionally laughing as he snarks a little about his current client.
“But you don’t have a lot to do today?” Nathan asks, watching him carefully as if to make sure he tells the truth.
“No, not too much. Just gotta get through a few more chapters, then let it sit and then do another pass but that’s later.
“You think you’re up for leaving the house today then?”
Timothy frowns, looking down at his plate for a moment. “I—”
“Come on, you haven’t been out in a couple of weeks. Come for a walk with me.”
“A walk,” he says, trying to test out the idea in his head. “I could get some egg mileage.”
“You could.” Nathan shakes his head a little. “That fucking game is at least good for something.”
Timothy flicks a piece of egg at him. “Hey, it’s a fun game. Just because you don’t appreciate it doesn't mean it’s not.”
“Fine, Pokemon Go is a gift. Is that better?”
He sticks his tongue out at him because he is a mature adult. “Yes, much better.”
Finishing breakfast involves a little more flicking of food and Nathan threatening to not let him have sweets for a week if he keeps up with it. That gets Timothy to stop pretty quickly and even do the dishes when they’re finished.
“Go get in real clothes,” Nathan says, coming up behind him and wrapping his arms around his waist. “If you’re up for staying out after a little while, we can hit the zoo.”
Well, that gets him blinking. “The zoo?”
“Yes,” Nathan deadpans. “The zoo. Think of all the Pokestops you can hit if we go.”
“To the zoo!”
~
It’s a bright, clear day and he starts to relax as they take to the street. There aren’t a lot of people out right now, despite the fine weather and Nathan is walking on the outside so that he’s between Timothy and anyone else who might pass them.
His nose is in his phone though, keeping an eye out for anything interesting that might pass them or any stops they might hit. It’s easy to get engrossed in his game and let Nathan filter the world for him. If he’s honest, he prefers this to going out alone by far.
The zoo has a few school groups but not many people beyond that. This works for him and after a certain point, Timothy actually stops paying as much attention to the phone and more attention to the world around him. He likes animals, likes that they don’t expect much from him, that he can exist around them and not be afraid.
Well, except for dogs. He doesn’t care for dogs anymore.
Soon enough, he’s forgotten his phone altogether and is pulling Nathan up to exhibits, watching animals of various shapes and sizes. It’s fun, and he catches the other man smiling at him every so often, which is always pleasing in his book. It makes him feel like he’s doing it right, just being a normal person instead of the mess of a thing he normally is.
They spend about half the day wandering around, exploring the zoo and seeing what it has to offer. It's an easy day and by the time they’re coming around to the gift shop, he’s tired but in a really, really good way.
The shop isn’t much to write home about but there’s a weird little stuffed thing that catches his eye. Walking over, he picks it up, reading the tag and seeing that it’s a red panda. It’s soft, plush and comforting against his hands. It feels so stupid to want to take it home but Nathan sees how he’s looking at the thing and he knows they aren’t getting out of here without it.
That’s okay, he’s not going to complain, at least not too much. It’s…nice. It’s going to be a nice reminder of the day and normality and easy times.
“You’re awful,” he says to Nathan as the cashier rings up the little toy.
“I’m a bad, bad man, I know.” He grins up at him. “But you’re okay with that.”
“I am.” He kisses him lightly on the cheek and takes the red panda. “But only because you put up with me.”
“Wouldn’t have it any other way.” Nathan takes his hand and they walk out, heading home once again.

AWW.
This reminded me a lot of one of my favorite comics and also of stuffed Okapi story which I may need to tell you. Anyway, it was heartwarmingly perfect for a cloudy, winter day. Thank you!

I love these two so much, they are a part of my happy place, at least when they're not being horribly sad.
