“I’m sorry to turn up like this,” Fera said, for the fifth time since her sister had let her in.

“Don’t worry about it,” she said. “What the hell happened?”

Fera hesitated for half a second. There was a lot to lose here; not just for her and Kellom and Tana and that poor kid, but for her in-laws, who she had always liked, and then there was the politics involved…

“That bad?” she guessed, pulling out a bottle of wine and a couple glasses.

I won’t name names, she decided. But I have to tell someone, God. “Kellom cheated on me.”

“That fucker,” she said. “Fuck him. I always said you deserved better.”

She winced. "Please, can you not?"

"Sorry. Fine. Still, he's an asshole."

"Yeah." Fera accepted a full glass of wine and downed it gratefully. “It was years ago, but I…I just found out.”

“So, wait, he’s been screwing someone else for years? God, Fera.”

“No!” Fera said. “Or, at least, I don’t think so. He said it was only once, and I believe him, but…God, I don’t know what to do.

“Well, my wife’s cousin is a damned good divorce lawyer,” she said, refilling the glass.

“My father-in-law is the President,” Fera reminded her. “It’s not that simple.”

“Fuck, that's right. You’re not staying with him, are you?”

“No,” she said. “God no. Of course not. He--it was years ago, but he still screwed someone else. At his brother’s wedding!

“God, what an asshole. Lucky you don’t have kids.”

No, but he does. God. Fera sighed, and flopped back. “So, I can stay here for a day or two? At least until I figure out how to…you know, whatever?”

“Absolutely,” she said firmly. “What else are sisters for?”

Fera managed a smile, and drank some more wine.

“…can we at least print out a picture of him and use it as a dartboard?”

“God, yes. That sounds awesome.” It wouldn’t change anything--let alone fix anything--but getting drunk with her sister and putting a few sharp pointy objects into Kellom’s stupid, cheating, incestuous face might make her feel better.

At the very least, it sure as hell couldn’t make her feel worse.

Good for Fera. I know this must be so hard for her, learning this and walking away from someone she loves (loved?), so I'm really glad she has her sister to support her.
