Notes: This is my first post here and I hope I've done everything right. Now Claire is a side character, but knows Adam and his family very well. This is after she lost her husband Axel in battle and she can't keep up her coping techniques. She's also a Shadow Demon as to clear up any confusion with shadows. Enjoy! Mods may I have tags please? Thank you!
“Be good while I’m away sweetheart.” Claire pressed a kiss to Seth’s forehead.
“But mom,” Seth looked up at Claire with tears in his eyes. “Where are you going?”
Claire felt a lump in her throat, but she swallowed it. She smoothed a loose strand of his hair down and gave a reassuring smile.
“I need to get some things settled, okay? Daddy left behind many things for me to look at and make sure is handled correctly. I’ll be back really soon, okay? You can have fun with Adam, Kia, and his siblings. Mr. Bernard and Ms. Alene will take good care of you. Now, be good, okay? I’ll be back soon, I promise.” Claire wrapped her arms around him.
Seth nodded and buried his face against her chest. “I promise.”
“Good boy. I love you so much.” Claire kissed his cheek and hugged him again. She straightened up and looked at Bernard and Alene. “I left the list of things for him, along with his bags, toys, and anything else he may need. Thank you again.”
“No problem,” Bernard said.
“Take as much time as you need.” Alene said.
“Thank you,” Claire nodded. She took off her pendant and placed it around Seth’s neck. “Keep this safe for mommy, okay?”
“Okay,” Seth gripped the pendant with his small hand. “I will!”
Claire grinned and kissed his cheek. “I love you, be good.” She straightened out and nodded to Bernard and Alene. “Thank you,” She disappeared in a swirl of shadows, leaving her son with the best people she knew.
*~*~*
Claire returned to her home and headed to the office to handle another one of Axel’s estates. She stopped in the middle of the hallway at a picture of her family. Axel had Seth in one arm and her pulled against him with the other. She touched the frame slowly, feeling her resolve break. She turned to the nearest item, the vase from their fifth anniversary, and threw it against the wall.
Claire growled, throwing another vase against the wall. A strange cry started to echo around the house as shadows swirled around the walls and the floor. She tipped over the table, ripped apart the couch, and tossed all the glasses against the wall.
“BASTARD! WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GO ON?” Claire reached into the cupboard and tossed plates down onto the floor.
“YOU PROMISED ME! YOU SAID WE WOULD BE TOGETHER FOREVER! BUT NOW YOU’RE GONE AND NEVER COMING BACK! I FUCKING DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO!” Claire pulled the silverware drawer out and threw it against the wall. “I HATE THAT YOU’RE GONE! I HATE THAT YOU WON’T BE HERE TO KISS ME OR BE WITH ME OR SEE SETH GROW UP! YOU FUCKIN’ PROMISED! YOU PROMISED!”
Claire rampaged throughout the house, letting out the frustration she hid from Seth. She destroyed items, broke mirrors, and ripped apart anything she could get her claws on. Claire didn’t go into Seth’s room or Axel’s office. She stormed into their bedroom with the intent on setting the bed on fire, but she couldn’t.
The room still held Axel’s scent. The walls contained his laughter. The floor held hairs from the time they made love and couldn’t make it to the bed. Claire looked around as tears rolled down her cheeks. There were too many memories. Too many memories of birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas mornings, Sundays, and every other holiday she could think of.
Claire collapsed in the middle of the floor with a broken sob. “You bastard! H-How am I supposed to live without you?” She curled into a ball and sobbed into her hands.
*~*~*
A few hours later, Claire sat up with a twinge in her neck. She didn’t know how long she slept or cried. She didn’t care since she didn’t have to worry about Seth. Seth was safe. It was one of the reasons she left him at the Winchesters’. He didn’t have to see his mother break down in front of him. He saw enough.
Claire picked herself up off the floor and stumbled over to the bed. She crawled over to Axel’s side and curled into another ball. She buried her face against his pillow and breathed deep. Another sob racked her body at the familiar scent.
“I love you so much, why did you leave me? Why did you leave me?” Claire whispered. She repeated the statement, until she fell back asleep.
