Less than two months in and already it felt like a mistake. Brad was entertaining, but he was also irritating. Funny, but mean. Sexy, but self-centered. At least Gail came every time. So she stayed. Why not?

Why not, she thought, months later, waiting for the timer to sound. So many whys. So many missing nights, unanswered calls, flimsy excuses. No STDs, at least; one bullet dodged. Brad was fun, but he was not... well.

The timer shrilled. She'd made her bed, time to lie in it. With him.

She took a deep breath, and picked up the pregnancy test.
