The Queen Regent is the most powerful woman in the nation; possibly the most powerful woman in the world.

Nida is a pawn; the tool of her sister and the Red Rose movement.

The Queen Regent is the perfect blend of gracious widowhood and fervent patriotism; grieving but soldiering on for the sake of her son and her nation as a whole.

Nida is afraid she'll run mad with the grief, with the horror of what she's done; it's only for the sake of her nation and her son that she is able to hold together at all.

The Queen Regent is still young, and still beautiful--and the pathway to the young King; her full year of official mourning is barely over before the courtships begin.

Nida is close to throttling the first man who tries to flirt with her with any substance to it; she is still mourning, she still loves him, and she can't--she can't--she can't.

The Queen Regent is respected, always respected; even as the first flush of national mourning and respect starts to fade and her people begin to question her reforms.

Nida is loathed in certain circles, and she knows it--both her enemies and her allies, those who know or suspect what she did, those who feel what she does is too much, or not enough.

The Queen Regent is mourned, when she dies, less than two years after her late husband.

Nida is murdered in her bed.

The Queen Regent is followed by a decade of terror, and even her enemies miss her now, death having washed away all her sins.

Nida is betrayed by her own bodyguard, someone she thought she could trust.

The Queen Regent is--

Nida is--

The best of them.

Alone.

This is unfairly heartbreaking and I blame you. I love the structure.
