Crimson #7, Plant Party #22
Name: shadowsong26
Story: That Girl
'Verse: Feredar
Colors: Crimson #7. You're not assuming anything!, Plant Party #22. Artichoke Flower
Supplies and Materials: graffiti (Halftime: Lillith Faire Village Stage), photography, canvas, brush (fret), acrylic, oils, modeling clay, novelty beads (disastrous outing)
Word Count: 253
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Nolani
Warnings: References to sex and uncomfortable romantic situations
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always. I'm sorry I keep writing sad 'Lani pieces. I will try to stop doing that...
Nolani tries not to be That Girl.
She could be, all too easily. She knows that. She’s pretty, she’s charming, and being a princess doesn’t exactly hurt. Even if she’s a lesser princess, unlikely to ever inherit, it lends an extra layer to her appeal. She can have pretty much anyone she wants. All she has to do is smile, and ask. It's easy. It's so, so easy, to forget that there might be reasons to say no. Reasons not to smile. Reasons not to ask.
So she puts the extra effort in, because she has to. She can’t really control who falls in love with her--though she’s wished she could, several times, in both directions--and she can't control who she falls in love with, but she can control what she does about it. She does her best to research her potential favorites before inviting anyone to her bed. She's discreet, but she looks into their family, their friends, their background. She tries to make sure they’re chasing her because they want to, not because their parents want them to, make sure they’re not hiding secrets that will make her life difficult…
And make sure they’re unattached. Make sure they’re not cheating, or leaving someone else behind only for her.
She screwed up. Once. She’ll never forget the devastated look in that girl’s eyes, when she caught her lover and Nolani in the garden.
Once was enough. Nolani is more careful now. Because she refuses to be That Girl ever again.

Yeah, part of her knows that. But at the same time...yeah.
