The first six months after Kellom’s death passed like a waking dream.

Fera wasn’t a prisoner, not really--Andrell was good to her; he made sure she was safe and did his best to keep her comfortable. But she couldn’t safely leave her rooms, and the days still faded one into the other, a grey monotony of loss.

She tried escaping into memories; the few happy times she and Kellom had had. He had always been kind to her, and if she had been lonely…

If she had been lonely…

She didn’t want to think about being lonely. She didn’t want to chase his ghost down these halls. She didn’t want to hear the echo of his voice, soft and measured and always so kind to her. She didn’t want…she didn’t want…

So she let the days drift, and she drifted with them, waiting for the world to someday feel less hollow.

Poor Fera. This is such a great depiction of depression.
