Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.

The others think Michaela uncaring, even cruel (though they at least will qualify that with ‘unintentionally’), and it hurts more than the Archangel cares to admit. The others think that Michaela is unaware of their nephew’s pain, each time he wakes as himself again. The others think that Michaela is mulishly stubborn, afraid or unwilling to change if a chosen tactic seems to fail.

But this is not so. How could it be? Michaela has spent centuries watching and safeguarding Gabriel’s child, the living key; wiping the pain from his mind so he can have peace, if only for a little while. Michaela was even asked for this, when contact was first made. It seems the others have forgotten that.

And, yes, Michaela will admit, in the darkest hours of night, that it is troubling that the downward spirals when he wakes seem as devastating as they ever were, even after all this time. Things should be improving, and they aren’t. This is a problem, one Michaela has not managed to solve. But, on the other hand, Michaela has always known this solution was imperfect. Michaela is not perfect, and knows this. If Michaela were perfect, Lux would not have been lost. If Michaela were perfect, none of this would have been necessary.

But Michaela is good, and Michaela is righteous, and Michaela knows that the wipes are the least bad of a series of terrible options. No, it is not perfect, and yes, it causes him some pain when he wakes, but the alternative--the alternative is worse.

Michaela thinks the others have forgotten how lost he was, before the first wipe. But Michaela never will.

So, Michaela knows that what is done is kind.

I really like this glimpse into Michaela's head, even if Michaela is so very very wrong and doesn't even know how wrong Michaela IS. Yikes.
