Nolani read the first sentence of Riluke's letter a dozen times, making sure it was real.

He's alive he's safe he's alive he's safe he's alive he's safe!

She started jumping up and down with glee, not giving a damn if anyone was watching.

I should read the rest of the letter, she thought dimly, but that could wait. She knew the important part now. Isshiri was alive, Riluke was looking after him, and she'd talk Mother into letting her go to the Islands, and if not, well, she'd just leave anyway.

He's alive. Thank all the gods. He's safe.
