Blue Opal #14, Rose #7
Name: Greenling
Story: All Great Things
Colors: Blue Opal #14 (And would not be diminished), Rose #7 (The rose speaks of love silently, in a language known only to the heart.)
Supplies and Styles: Fingerpainting (playing with omniscient POV), Novelty Beads (Image)
Word Count: 550
Rating: G
Warnings: Nope.
Summary: A tiny bit of development of the sidhe side of AGT, via Jaymie and Rowan being awkward at each other, because I am shipping trash for my own characters.
Comments, criticism, and questions are all appreciated.
The mountains were cold at night, even in early autumn, and by the second night of negotiations just about everyone was huddled around a fire. A big roaring pyre had been started in the parking lot outside the meeting hall, and early in the evening it had been surrounded by people, mostly sidhe, drinking beer and trading war stories. As the stars had risen and the dark had grown stronger, the camaraderie had faded- maybe given a push by a few too many stories inappropriate for mixed company. A few diehards still sat staring into the flames, but for the most part, everyone had split off into their seperate cabins or wandered off on their own business.
Jaymie met Rowan on the broad back deck of the main meeting hall with a pair of drinks. He walked over without ever quite looking at hir, sat one of them on the railing and leaned over with the other one to stare nonchalantly at the treeline. They were both quiet for what felt like several minutes.
Far up in the sky, tiny dots of snow were beginning to swirl. Jaymie shivered. Rowan reached out and touched his arm. He shivered again and rolled his shoulders; hir hand dropped.
"Sorry." Rowan's voice was barely above a whisper. "Do you want to go inside?"
Jaymie shook his head and took a drink.
Things went back to being quiet. Over time Jaymie inched closer, not entirely consciously, until his arm brushed the sleeve of Rowan's coat. He made an effort not to move this time.
"Sky's clearer out here," Rowan said. Jaymie looked up at hir; hir eyes were off towards the sky, staring at the moon. It was full and large, and yeah, the only thing in the sky not covered with a thin rainbow film.
"It is. It's..." He went through a lot of words in his mind before settling on one. "Hopeful."
"You think so?"
"I think this entire thing scares me to death."
Jaymie's face was cold and blank; Rowan turned directly to him, eyes searching.
"The unseelie is scared." Hir tone was gentle, but with an edge of amusement.
His mouth twitched, not making it into a smile. "All the time. That's the deal."
"Huh."
The snow started to fall in earnest, streaming down around the trees and reflecting the halogen outdoor lights in a bright haze. A smile spread across Rowan's face at nothing apparent. Jaymie took off his sunglasses and wiped them off on the hem of his shirt. Soft blue light scattered across the snow for a moment and disappeared just as quickly.
"I'm bored. Wanna go play video games?"
Jaymie looked up. "...You brought video games?"
"Just the one console. Mario Kart, Pokémon, stuff that doesn't need an internet connection. It's good stress relief between all the super-serious stuff, right?"
"Uhm.. sure." Jaymie crossed his arms, as much cold as nervous. He wasn't sure how the seelie would take him heading into Rowan's room, but... hell, he was a grown man. It wasn't anybody's business if he wanted to... play Mario Kart with a friend. "Friend". Whatever.
"Cool." Rowan's smile seemed to warm up the porch a whole degree, then sie just walked off. Jaymie tugged at the collar of his shirt and turned to follow.
