Riluke is a professional diplomat. She knows that, however much the Islands feel like home, she remains an outsider. She must be neutral regarding their internal affairs.

But, gods, she wishes she had kept Kit Artwick from becoming Lord of the Islands. How that crocodile could be Mel’s closest relation baffles her; he’s worse than her aunt.

Still, she knows her place, and decided then that interfering would make things worse.

But now, Kes has uncovered horrors committed in Asendar, and needs her to help bring the bastard down.

Riluke wastes no time in abandoning professionalism, and moves to intervene.
