Kirana lay on her back in the sand, eyes closed, focusing on her breathing. "Okay, I'm ready."

"Open your eyes."

Kirana sat up and did so, resisting the urge to stop and shake the sand out of her hair. That would defeat the whole purpose.

Sister Lomesshi was holding a small, blue-hot flame. "Tell me what you see."

Kirana focused on the flame, forcing herself to ignore the flickering faces trying to draw her in, narrowing her focus until it was just a flame. When she broke contact and looked back up at the sister's face, she was breathless. "Faces, but I didn't follow them."

Sister Lomesshi smiled. "You're getting better at this."

"It doesn't always happen, when I look at fire. How am I going to know when it's my control and when it's just that the fire doesn't have anything to show me?" That was what worried her most, more than not being able to block out visions when she didn't want them. That she'd think she had it, and then it would turn out there was just nothing to see.

"I'm not sure," she admitted. "There aren't any other living, trained seers we can ask about it. All I can tell you is that everything I've read says what we're doing will help. Even if it won't lock out really powerful, urgent ones."

Somehow, that wasn't very comforting, but Kirana nodded.

She smiled again. "Once we've gotten the unwanted visions locked down as much as possible, we can start figuring out how to look for specific things, all right?"

"Okay." She ran a hand through her hair, trying to dislodge some of the sand. "Can we try again?"

Sister Lomesshi eyed her. "You sure you're up for it?"

Kirana nodded. "One more time."

"All right. Lie back down and close your eyes. Let me know when you think you're centered."

Oh hell yes! More Kirana flame seeing! I'm so happy you posted this. I was curious about how it worked exactly.

Ooh, I like this. A nice little look into how the visions work and how much work it takes to control them. Good job.

Ooh, interesting details about the visions. I like that no one really knows what they're doing and are trying their best to follow advice out of books. It makes the visions kind of unreliable since no one is entirely sure how they work.

Hooray, seers! Good luck, Kirana. That can't be easy.
