Notes: Very and Dee are one of my happy places, I'm not even gonna try and lie. Most of the Deaths are, to be honest.

One night, Very comes into the bar, her shoulders sagging, bruises blooming around her eyes and seemingly carrying a weight that she won't be able to hold up much more.

Dee could smell her blood as soon as she walked in.

"What happened," she asks, trying to keep the concern out of her voice but failing. She starts moving her hands over Very's body as soon as she's close enough, trying to feel out how bad the wounds are and if any of them are going to lead to a quick end.

"They want me out," Very says simply. "They say I'm cavorting with others too much. They say my loyalties have changed."

"Well, you're still standing, so I guess you won??" She detects nothing too grievous and relaxes a little.

"I almost had to rip someone's throat out." She says it in a very matter-of-fact way and while Dee isn't put off by violence, she knows Very can be and recognizes this as a coping mechanism.

"You're still here," Dee says, her voice gentle. "That's what matters."

"I think they're right."

She looks so tired when she says it and Dee just wants to take her inside and put her to bed to rest. She doesn't but the urge is strong.

"You think?"

Very nods. "I think...I think I need to re-evaluate where I stand. With everything."

"Should...Should I stay away? Would that make it easier?"

A shake of her' head and Dee is relaxing, feeling the tension that had spiked hard, slowly easing away again.

"I don't want you to stay away. I think I already know what's going to happen."

Dee nods, one hand moving to push Very's hair away from her face. "You'll do what's best, I know that. I've got every faith that, no matter how this goes, you'll come out okay in the end."

Very nods slowly, that tired expression deepening. "I think..I think I need to sleep. May I sleep in the back?"

"Yeah, of course."

Days Later, Dee hasn't heard from Very and she's getting anxious. While she knows her girlfriend isn't dead, it doesn't mean something hasn't happened to her.

She's getting things ready for opening when said girlfriends decides to pop in.

"Are you busy?"

Dee looks up, a wide and relieved smile on her face. "Yeah! I mean no! I mean get over here and let me see you, damnit. I've missed you."

Very smiles, that small, happy smile she gets when Dee is being excited about something. "Missed you too."

They close the distance and hug, Dee kissing very on the corner of her lips before releasing her.

"So? How are you. Are things settled."

Very nods. "I know what I'm doing."

Dee's tongue darts out to wet her bottom lip. "And?"

Very smiles a little more, pulling out a box and holding it open. Inside sits a finely crafted necklace, a black stone at it's center.

"Marry me?"

Dee looks at the necklace, touches it for a moment, then looks at very. "Are..Wait, are you..Oh fuck."

Very's smile falters. "I--"

"No, no!" Dee says quickly. "I--yes! Yes. Oh for the sake of everything, yes!" She's laughing as she swings her arms around Very and feels the other woman's arms wrap around her.

"Sorry," Dee starts in as she's released. "I din't mean to seem like I wasn't excited. I--..Okay, honestly, this was not what I expected."

Very laughs a little. "I thought as much. But I know where my loyalties fall and they are with you." She moves in to kiss her, long and slow and loving.

When they break apart, both of them are grinning. "Well," Dee says. " Guess I gotta start planning a wedding now."

"That's right," Very agrees. "You plan it. All of it. I don't even know what goes into a wedding."

Dee wants to laugh but she's just left with a ridiculously big smile. 'Well, I guess you'e going to find out."
