Warnings: Discussion of con artistry and Fantine-like situations (though no one is actually in one).
Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always.
People always seem to think that something horrible happened to me, and that's why I drift around the seedier planets and moons, fleecing everyone I can.
The truth is--no, nothing horrible happened. My parents were good people, moral, upright, kind and generous people, and, believe it or not, I did learn some lessons from them. I sure as hell only steal from people who can afford it, for one. And I do some charity, sometimes.
And, no, I didn't have my heart broken by a con man who then dragged me into his life onto some bizarre revenge quest. And I didn't start out on some quest to earn money to save a dying orphan and then get sucked into temptation.
...my mom used to read a lot of novels like that. You know, the moralizing ones about the Tragically Virtuous Fallen Women and oh what sad stories they were, and they all died of tuberculosis or whatever at the end. I always thought those were so dumb.
My point is, I chose this life because I'm good at it--I'm pretty enough to be manipulative, but not so pretty everyone hates me for it, I'm smart, I can read most people like a book--and because it's fun. I don't need to be saved from any demons, past or present. I'm doing what I love, applying my natural talents and hard-earned skills.
In other words, sure, fine, I'm a Fallen Woman--except I didn't fall, I jumped. And I'm having the time of my life riding the sky down.
