starphotographs
Story: Corwin and Friends
Supplies and Styles: Graffiti (Summer Carnival, Lilith Fair Village Stage: http://www.metrolyrics.com/mouth-lyrics-merril-bainbridge.html)
Characters: Piston (POV), Spenser
Colors: Alien Green 15 (I think it’s remotely plausible that someone might think you’re hot.)
Word Count: 250ish
Rating: PG(-13?)
Warnings: Choose not to warn.
Summary: Danger is exciting.
Note: These two are fun to write.
Blown Away
I think I know why Spenser brought the Tesla coil with him when I invited him to come hang out at my parents’ garage:
He wanted to impress me.
And he did, but maybe not like he thought. I mean, that he built it wasn’t thathuge a deal. Give me the parts, and I’ll build one myself.
No, what impressed me was that he could stand so close to it, his ever-present ability to smile at danger. His hair was standing on end, and the lightning was feeling around for his heart, but he didn’t even think to back off. Just stood there flickering in the jittery blue-violet glow.
Then a bolt leapt to one of the overhead lights, shattering it, showering him in glass. I’d ducked behind my dad’s toolbox as soon as I heard the bang and the tinkling, but he just stood there, dumbfounded, the eggshell-thin shards slicing him up on their way down.
Spenser is intelligent and mechanical and brave. He’s also a crazy childish disaster who breaks shit.
The whole event reminded me of how much I liked him. Because it was one of the few moments when all of him was there.
And when he stood there sweeping up glass in the dark, the dusty light from the high windows glinting off the frames of his glasses and the blood on his clothes…
…Well, what else could I do?
I took the broom, put it aside, and lead him into some stranger’s busted car.
Like I’d been planning all along.
