Once or twice, after he started killing, Kit came close to getting caught.

It never took him long to talk his way out of trouble--he had rank and wealth, and the backing of a powerful Clan. Trade with the Islands was the majority of most port towns' economy, which drove the economy of Asendar as a whole. Even if any interview was more than a necessary form, with the inspector stumbling over himself to apologize for the accusations, it would never go anywhere.

And if, for some reason, one did, he'd just come back and kill the overeager Inspector later.
