They were just waiting now.

It was hard on all of them, except perhaps Gail herself-- odd, since she was the one who was dying. Harder, though, on her children.

It broke Gina's heart, watching them. Aaron, struggling to understand why she would just let go. Summer, who maybe did understand, who knew better, and still looked for a cure.

And Ivy, Ivy, losing her mother, unable to understand or accept it. Her mother had always been there, and soon she would not be, and Ivy couldn't seem to comprehend what was happening.

Outside the hospital, it started to snow.
