so absurd i could cry;

Name: Mischa
Story: fragments of stars falling
Colors: atomic tangerine (apocalyptic log), halloween orange (it's just 'til my evil plan comes into flower), octarine (I expect I've saved the day, right?)
Supplies and Styles: graffiti (illegal Hollywood reboot)
Word Count: 761
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: racism, sexism, transphobia, homophobia, biphobia: all the things that go with talking about Hollywood casting.
Summary: Meta about how Hollywood would probably completely butcher fragments of stars.

First, the casting. I live under a rock and don't really watch movies much, so I don't really have any actors/actresses in mind for most of the major-ish characters.

Zorya Starfall/Alexia Laskaris: Definitely not Greek anymore, probably American. Maybe British if they really feel like making her an immigrant. Definitely not bisexual, only straight.

There are two possible ways Hollywood can go with her: the most obvious is that she gets turned into a male character, because 99.9% of the time, a character with her archetype is going to be male. A bitter, angry, violent and vulgar loner of a Byronic hero with no softness in her anywhere, and who generally solves her problems with a ton of fire, wielding an absolutely absurd magic sword one-handed and beating it until it stops moving? Yeah, most likely definitely going to be male, especially in what amounts to a post-apoc (if fantasy) action movie. Also SO MUCH MANPAIN. SO MUCH.

The other way is that she ends up the Designated Strong Female Character (also, they'd probably take all her backstory elements with her struggles against sexism and probably turn her into an absolute strawman caricature of a "feminist" just for a Not All Men lesson) and ends up damseled despite being a literal god somehow, is Rescued From Her Plight and ~totally softens up~ and loses all her harshness. God I just threw up in my mouth a little writing this.

Lilia abd Ra'uf: Three ways they could go with her: if Zorya ends up a male character, then she definitely stays female (and is definitely not a lesbian). First of the two is that they drop the fact she's a transwoman entirely, make her cis. Probably more emphasis on her purity and making her a Joan of Arc archetype (more than she already is), she's probably made out to be more of a figurehead than the actual kickass strategic and tactical genius that she is, and if she remains female, then she gets damseled.

The second is that they keep the thread of her being trans but cast Jared Leto to play her, because what is giving an actual transwoman actor work?

The third way is that if Zorya ends up female, then Lilia likely ends up male. Is the ~actual hero~, and it is the only way Lilia would be allowed to be as competent as she is in the story onscreen. Probably ends up very cookie cutter ~male action hero~ who ~totally saves the day~.

Ilyas abd Ra'uf: Definitely racefail here: what is depicting a character of Middle Eastern descent as a positive, good figure in present-day Hollywood? Not likely. Also Hollywood whitewashes everything. Everything. Probably also not an old man, either, or if he is, he dies (and completely misses the point of his arc).

Plot and Themes: First, the movie won't be set in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, like where fragments actually is set: it'll be in AMERRIKKA with a totally all-American Alexia/Zorya. Also it'll completely butcher the thing with the Wisp creation: where the intended takeaway is not that "science is bad" but more "jesus christ be careful", there'll probably be some Transhumanism Is Bad and Science Is Terrible! message. And ditch the killing God thing in the backstory, too: instead the fragments of divinity will probably come from killing some non-Abrahamic religion's god (and it being implied to be a ~false god~). No goddess worship, so the subplot with the Lady being based on Zorya won't exist (even if Zorya is male, no "god" being made based on her), Christianity everywhere though it doesn't make sense.

All the soldiers depicted on screen will be adults, not teenagers because this isn't the Hunger Games or a YA dystopia novel adaptation and thus showing the desperate situation humanity is in by being forced to field teenagers as a large part of their military is out. Lilia's "burden of being held up as a messiah" plot will be cut, because Jesus Analogue.

If Lilia is female, then instead of dying in the extremely heroic and awesome way she did, doing something impossible, she's just fridged for male!Zorya's manpain. If Lilia is male, of course she never dies at all (and ~saves~ damseled!Zorya.) also pulling an unambiguous happy ending out of their asses somehow.

...okay, I can't do this anymore. I could probably think of more but I yield. My brain hurts.

I hate myself so much for writing this.

oh, but you're missing a great chance for them to insert a male power fantasy for the leading ladies to fight over!

<3 thanks for sharing, I know it's hard!
