Clean Again 2, Spring Green 2, Azul 7: Once a Month
Author: Kat
Title: Once a Month
Story: In the Heart
Colors: Clean again 2 (Full and Strong), spring green 2 (I will not be afraid of women), azul 7 (Bond) with shipwreck_light's paint-by-numbers (Felicity, Vivian and Elena are different people, but they are still sisters.)
Supplies and Materials: Photography, frame, modeling clay (What never fails to put a smile on your face?), novelty beads (You can't buy happiness. But you can buy tea.. And that's kind of the same thing.)
Word Count: 505
Rating: PG
Summary: One day a month.
Warnings: sibling rivalry discussed.
Notes: none.
It's the one day every month that Felicity doesn't have to dress up.
She takes some care with her appearance, of course. She's the governor's daughter; she's aware that people take pictures of her, and anyway she likes to be put together and pretty if not outright fancy. But for this she doesn't bother straightening her hair, lets it bounce into its natural curl, and for this she doesn't bother with much makeup, just foundation and maybe a little bit of mascara. And it's easy to get dressed: a cute sundress in summer, a soft and pretty sweater in winter.
It's nice not to have to be aware all the time, because her sisters won't care, except maybe to ask where she got something. It's nice not to have to put thought into every single little thing she wears and says and does.
It's just... it's nice.

Vivian's usually the one making the plans, if only because Liss is too busy and Ellie doesn't have the brainspace. She doesn't mind. She likes making plans, scanning Yelp reviews and canvassing for recommendations, finding places both her sisters might like. It's not easy-- Ellie's vegan and Liss can be picky, and then Vivian herself likes the artsy, Village-y places that Liss dismisses as "hipster nonsense" and Ellie just finds uncomfortable. Still, she's up to the challenge. She knows for a fact that her sisters still go to the tea room she found about a year ago.
She's never been much of a peacemaker or a compromiser. That was always Ellie, with her worried little frown. In fact, Vivian used to get into flaming fights with both her sisters, hair-pulling and scratching included. Now that they're all adults, though, she likes hanging out with them, shooting the shit and drinking coffee, getting advice and little tea biscuits.
This month, it's going to be a little cafe that she loves, and Liss will deal.
--
Some guy once came up to their table and tried to hit on them, making some weird joke about how much they were laughing or something. Elena just remembers how they'd all three of them stared at him, flat and unamused, until his laugh became nervous and finally died away, until he finally, finally backed off and left. The fact is, for two or three hours once a month, she and her sisters are a unit again, a family of three fire-forged and unbreakable. Once a month, Liss doesn't pick at Viv's weight gain and Elena's adventures in therapy. Once a month, Viv doesn't call Liss a classicist or Elena a neoromantic. Once a month, Elena doesn't have to feel unsuccessful or uncreative. Once a month, they can just... be.
Most of the time, having sisters is a pain in the ass, especially when they're older and smarter and better. She loves them always, of course, but it has to be said: most of the time she doesn't like them very much.
And then there's once a month.
Elena smiles, and steps into the cafe.
