Notes: I was writing this as I listened to this. It just seemed to fit for Elisabeth and Fernando. This fic is titled after this song of course. Also I had a goofy smile on my face while writing this XD.
Benedita ran up the stairs leading to the royal chamber. She knocked hastily.
“Come in,” a voice from behind the door.
Benedita open the door to find her mistress, Elisabeth, sitting at a desk. Elisabeth looked up expectantly and smiled when she saw who it was that had interrupted her.
“Benedita did you run here?”
Benedita bent over and wheezed to catch her breath. Elisabeth stood up and walked the short distance to her.
“What is it?”
Benedita held up a letter and forced it on her.
Elisabeth took it and opened it. It contained only one line.
I’m coming home –Ferdi
Elisabeth squealed. She pulled up Benedita and clutched her friend to her.
“I can’t believe it, Benedita. Ferdi is coming home. He’ll finally see Maria!”
“Yes! I knew you’d be excited,” Benedita said jumping up and down with Elisabeth.
Elisabeth let go of Benedita and spun around. She hugged her arms to herself.
“When was the letter sent Benedita?” She asked dreamily.
“I believe it was sent from the border of Ibonia over two weeks ago?”
“Two weeks? But then that means….”
“Elisa,” a voice came from the doorway.
Both women stopped. Slowly Elisabeth turned around and saw him. Fernando stood there. His black curly hair was longer than when she had last seen him. His brown eyes were warm and they sought hers.
“Ferdi…” she whispered.
He opened his arms and she ran into them. He picked her up and she wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Ferdi…” she whispered again placing her hands on his face.
“I could really use a kiss, Elisa. I’ve missed your lips,” He said smirking up at her.
She laughed and bent her lips down to his. She kissed him deeply lightly pushing her tongue into his mouth. He pulled her closer.
Benedita coughed behind them.
Elisabeth reluctantly lifted her lips from his. But he kissed her again quickly before setting her on the floor.
Fernando put his arm around Elisabeth’s shoulder and kissed her head. She leaned into it.
“So Benedita, Elisabeth tells me you’ve been taking good care of her.”
Benedita blushed. “Yes Your Majesty.”
“Have you been taking care of Princesss Maria?” he asked.
“Oh yes Ferdi. She’s helped me with Juan. We should go to the nursery and see them,” She said hopping on one foot.
“Lead the way Elisa,” he said standing back to let her by.
Elisabeth beckoned to Benedita and took her hand when she came up to her. Fernando chuckled and followed the two women.
“Is the war over, Ferdi?” Elisabeth asked.
Fernando shook his head although he wasn’t sure if she could see him.
“The war is halted while Albabias negotiates terms with Ibonia. The troops have been recalled from the front lines.
“Oh well I’m just happy to have you home if only for a little while,” she said smiling back at him.
They reached the nursery. Elisabeth knocked slightly before opening the door.
“Mama!” A little black haired boy clung to Elisabeth’s legs after she had opened the door.
Elisabeth laughed and picked up the boy.
“Look Juan, there’s Papa!” She said excitedly to him. Juan turned his wide grey eyes to his father.
“Papa?” Juan cooed and held out his chubby arms to his father.
Fernando laughed and swung the boy in his arms.
“My boy! My how you’ve grown,” Fernando said smiling at his son.
Juan giggled as his father tickled his stomach. Fernando looked over at Elisabeth.
“Where’s my little girl?” he asked.
Elisabeth brought him over to the crib that held little Maria. She was asleep, her little brown head turned to the side and slightly sucking her thumb.
“She’s a little beauty. We sure do make beautiful babies, Elisa.”
Elisabeth chuckled. She leaned her head against his free shoulder.
“Why yes we do,” she said on a soft sigh.
