It took all of Keta’s resolve to make it through the funeral.

The city she loved had become a city of death. Half her family was gone, and the siege raged on outside, and so many inside didn’t even merit funerals--they were simply burned or buried with no markers for those they left behind.

All of that--all of that was hard, yes, but it wasn’t her grief or the faint traces of guilt that bothered her the most.

She was angry.

Angry with her surviving siblings, who came and made a show of looking pale and grave and saddened when, his weeping children aside, she was the only one who had ever loved him. She was the only one who had seen past his idle shell. And they all wept and pretended they cared--Andrell doing a credible job of it, Deva and Sola probably fooling everyone but her, and Tana clearly only trying because she had to; at least she was relatively honest about it.

And Kellom, her dear sovereign brother Kellom, who had killed him, had the gall to--

She let out a slow, calming breath. She shouldn’t rage. She should grieve. She should sink into her sorrow again as she had for her husband and son, weeping for the last, closest family she’d had. Because she was the only one who had loved him, and so many now lacked the luxury of mourners. She owed Mellir her tears.

But they just made her so angry.

Wow. Poor Keta. Anger is one of the stages of grieving! She's still grieving, just in her own way.

I knew someone missed the lil bastard. I knew it.

Now, I am sad and want to hug everyone.

There was no joy in being right. Only perfectly-structured tears.
