When Brenda finds John, he’s flirting with Ashley, a pretty blonde nurse she’s met in passing.
“Good talk?” she asks dryly, once Ashley gives him a smirk and leaves.
He smirks too. “Date tonight.”
“Anything serious?” she asks him casually.
He hesitates. “Nah. Ashley’s not looking for that.”
There’s that beat of disappointment again. “What’s up with that?” she decides to ask. “You’re attractive, a good guy, you have a great job. Are you a secret ax murderer?”
He sobers instantly, but the mischief in his eyes belies the act. “Well, now that you’ve discovered my dark secret…”
She laughs.
