She yawn when she stretches. She hates the change to summer time. That means losing one hour of sleep.
Her friends smile when they see her rub her eyes. They know the feeling. "But you're looking forward to the tournament?"
Nodding she shoots them a disbelieving look, of course she does. She has been looking forward to this first beach volley game of the year since the last beach tournament last year.
Winking she passes them the ball. "Let's play."

-

Cursing softly she watches her friends play. She can't believe her shoulder is hurting again.
One of her teammates sets herself next to her. "Are you alright?"
It's a stupid question, and they both know it, yet she answers. "Yeah, I'm alright. It hurts and I'm pissed off at yet another injury, but I'm alright."
Her friend pats her back gently before joining the game again. "It will heal quickly, you'll see. Next season, you're back on the field with us."
Smiling she nods. Only part of her believing the words. She has been through too many injuries. She knows...

-

The song is ringing through her apartment. No neighbors home. She has the entire building to herself. No one to come complaining that the music is on too loud. No one to bother her.
She's sitting on her couch, almost crying. A book on her lap, but she can't concentrate. Her laptop on the table next to her, facebook-chat open but no one is talking. And she isn't really in the mood to talk anyway. It makes her wonder why she hasn't shut the laptop down yet.
Quickly she selects a playlist, letting the metal scream loudly through her boxes.

-

Surprised she looks aside when she hears a ping announce a chat. Nick. Her boyfriend.
Softly she shakes her head. For a second, only a second, tempted to ignore him. But she would never do that, not to him.
Her replies are short and she uses no smiley’s. Deep down she knows it might worry him. But she can't help it. Can't force herself to be cheerful when she's feeling all kind of down inside.
"Want me to pass by?"
Blinking she discovers she nods to herself, even though he cannot see it.
"Yeah, I'd love that."

-

She bangs her fist against her head. Hadn't she just convinced herself she didn't want to talk to anybody, didn't want to see anybody? Didn't she just convince herself she wanted to be alone? Tears on her face, she wants his hug. He is the only one she wants to see when she feels down like this.
The music is still standing too loud, but she doesn't care. She just stays on her couch, staring in front of her, seeing nothing.
He stands in front of her all of a sudden, turning down the music, lips forming her name.

-

Hiding in his embrace, not looking at him. embarrassed that he saw her tears.
"Was it really necessary to put the music that loud?"
She nods against his chest. Not explaining it any further, just confirming it.
"How are your shoulders?"
She pulls them up as an answer. "They hurt."
"What else is hurting you?"
Shaking her head, she sniffles and hides further in his embrace. She’s exaggerating and being silly and she knows it. It meant nothing and she shouldn’t care for it that much.

-

He's lying next to her, one arm around her. Her head resting on his chest, her arm draped over his belly. She loves lying snuggled close to his side like this.
His breathing is calm and regular and she has watched him enough to know he’s sleeping.
"I'm sorry. I guess I'm just a little bit jealous."
Carefully she kisses his cheek. "I'm scared to lose you to one of your many female friends. And... Why didn't you ask me to join you yesterday?"
Biting her lip she forces the tears back. "I love you so much."

-

She wakes in his arms, his gentle lips kissing her softly.
"Good morning darling."
A shy smile on her face and she presses closer against him.
"You got a little sunburned from beaching yesterday."
His cold fingers gently trace the lines of her shirt.
"Shoulders a little bit okay?"
Nodding she kisses him. "No pain for the moment. But I'm going to make an appointment with the doctor anyway. No need to let it linger. I want to play next season."

-

They are sitting at the breakfast table when he suddenly brings it up again.
"What was the matter yesterday? Why did the music have to be so loud you didn't even hear the doorbell ring when I arrived? Could you even still hear yourself thinking?"
She shakes her head. "No, that was the reason it had to be so loud."
A surprised look on Nick's face.
"But Freya, why?"
Closing her eyes she turns her head away. "I've been silly, exaggerating, and..."
His fingers caress her cheek. "Are you jealous?"

-

"Freya?"
They moved over to the couch after breakfast. His question still hanging in the air.
"Perhaps a little bit."
A blush covers her cheeks. "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be. But.."
His lips cover hers for a second.
"Why are you so insecure? It is you I love."
"I know."
He smiles reassuringly, kisses and hugs her again. "I'm not leaving you."

Sometimes you need to drown out your own thoughts. I think Freya dealt with it pretty healthily though.
