Desperate eyes look around, everywhere she comes, hoping to catch a glimpse of life, hoping to find somebody - but there is no one, no where - she's all alone...

She lost count of how many villages she has passed since all has been destroyed, there is nothing to count for anyway, no one to count for.

She has wondered, the entire road she has walked alone, wondered why she is alive while everybody else is gone, dead, destroyed.

The first few times she called out, wondering if people were hiding, hoping they'd come out if she called - but no one ever did and now she mutely walks on, hoping against knowing.

So far she has found some scraps of food in every town she passed, sometimes even some fruit if she was lucky, but no people, no words.

A sudden noise behind her startles her - she has become used to the sound of silence and her own steps - and when she looks around she sees a pair of brown eyes looking straight back at her.

She had shared the found food with the boy, had asked questions but not received an answer, his words as dead as everyone else.

When she wanted to leave, he followed - he never said a word but the plea was right there in his eyes and she could see it all too well, between pain and death, a spark of hope: please, don't leave me alone, I don't want to be alone.

They travelled together from then on, neither ever said their name - names had lost all meaning, being alive was all that mattered.

Meeting the boy had kindled the flame of hope that was still inside her, even though she had thought it long lost.

And she knew, perhaps one day, when they found more survivors, names would finally be uttered again, would finally have meaning again.

Survivors, yay! I'm so glad she found someone. One little bit of hope.
