CAITHLYNN!
She looks up when hearing her Dragon’s desperate cry. Eyes search the sky, hoping to catch a glimpse of Taigiri through the smoke that seems to be everywhere.
Where are you?
Coughing she blocks a sword aimed for her neck. She hadn’t seen it coming. She had felt it. She’s taking a risk, searching her Dragon in the midst of battle.
I’m sorry little one.
Tears roll over her cheeks when she feels the sadness in Taigiri’s words. She cries out at the same time as her Dragon. As if the spear that pierced Taigiri’s side, also hit her.

She is still on her knees, fallen to the ground because of the pain in her side, when Alan reaches her. He slides down on his knees next to her. His sword still at the ready, despite the attack having stopped for the moment. Eyes still sweeping over the place, wary. Wondering why they aren’t attacking, wondering why their enemy is just standing there.
“What happened? Caithlynn? I could hear Taigiri roar. I heard you yelling ‘till the other end of the battlefield where I was fighting. What happened?”
Of course he notices the tears that roll down her cheeks.

She yells again when she blocks a sword aimed for her head. Alan has jumped up at the first sign of danger. There is fear in his eyes. Raw fear when he saw the pain in Caithlynn’s eyes. Raw fear when he noticed that Frey was nowhere in sight. Raw fear when he saw Tessa’s dead body on the ground.
She hadn’t confirmed it, but he saw the wound at her side. And it didn’t take him long to put the pieces together when he saw Taigiri fall out of the sky, landing in the forest nearby, crushing the trees.

“This… This isn’t how things were supposed to be. This can’t be how things are supposed to be. This…”
There are no more tears. They have all dried at that one battle. The battle where she lost Taigiri. Where they lost Tessa. Where they almost lost Frey…
Alan’s hand on her shoulder is trembling. He doesn’t need to say it. She knows. Just like her, he has lost faith.
Frey looks up at them. “Things will change. I’m sure of that. The Darkness will not win. It cannot win… We cannot let it win.”
His words almost make her smile.
