"He's tired of you Freya! Cheats on you."
She ignores Tina's shouts, directed to her back. Her steps don't falter when she walks away from the other girl. Despite the insults still shouted to her. Despite the coldness and fear and uncertainty that settles in her heart.
There are tears rolling down her cheeks when she enters her apartment. She knows it isn't true. Not a word of what Tina has said. Nick loves her. He does. And she loves him. And it's all good between them. And she has no reason to doubt. But she is insecure. And doubts herself way too much. And... In truth, they are no longer tears of fear or pain, but tears of anger. Angry with herself.
"Freya?"
His worried voice, suddenly right next to her.
"Nick?" Surprised. Little bit worried. But most of all so very glad to see him.
"What's the matter?"
She shakes her head, buries her face against his shoulder and wraps her arms around his waist. Nick immediately holds her close to him, returning the embrace.
"Freya?"
So much worry. So much love.
"It's okay. I just..."
She shakes her head, lifting it a little so she can look at him without him loosening his hold on her, trying to smile reassuringly.
"I just met Tina on my way home."
Actually, there is no need to explain it more. The name just says enough. Tina hates Freya...
"What did she say?"
Once more she shakes her head.
"Nothing true."
"But her words still hurt you?"
She casts her eyes towards the ground while she bites her lip. For a second she had actually believed them. For a second she had doubted Nick.
"You know me Nick. You know how insecure I am. Yes, for a second these words did hurt..."
He reaches up with his hand, his fingers caressing her cheek. She can read the question in his eyes, but she shakes her head. Indicating that it doesn't matter what Tina has said.
"Just... Just hold me?"
The tears are dried up and she sighs happily when he hugs her. And he doesn't let go for a couple of minutes.
"Shall we go inside? Instead of standing here in the hallway?"
Looking up she sees his eyes twinkle. "Nick?"
Smiling he picks her up, carrying her to the bedroom.
"Yeah, we go inside."
She laughs when he carefully lays her down on the bed. "I meant the living room."
He looks at her. Not the least bit innocent.
"I know..."
Smiling he kisses her, his hand moving under her t-shirt, gently caressing her belly.
"I love you."
A soft whisper in her ear, before he carefully bites her earlobe. His lips moving lower to her neck, kissing and sucking and leaving a small mark.
She wraps her arms around his neck and pushes her body against his, rolling her hips a little and feeling his erection through his jeans.
"And I'm going to make love to you."
Giggling she allows him to undress her. Shivering when he places kisses all over her body, it makes her forget all about earlier.
