“Freya!”
She laughs and runs when she hears him yell out her name in mock anger. The others of the group are watching, with a big smile on their face, when they see Nick running after her.
It has been ages since she last set a foot on the tatami. Ages since she last was able to train with them. And it feels good to have her back.
Despite the illness. Despite the chemo. Nothing has changed. She is still the same. A passionate fighter. Cheerful. Teasing. And it might have made her stronger. It has brought her closer, much closer to Nick as well.
“You know, I’m surprised it took them so long to realize they loved each other…”
Chris is voicing what everyone has been thinking. And they all nod in agreement.
"Gottcha".
She chuckles when she feels his arms around her. There is that big, happy, open, carefree smile on her face when she turns in his arms and kisses him.
"Guys, come on, training is about to start. Stop the flirting, will you."
Rob's voice is playfully desperate when they all line up to start training.
-
"You okay?"
Freya nods and shifts a little closer to Nick's side, letting her head rest on his shoulder and he moves a little to wrap his arm around her waist.
"You sure?"
Once more she nods, pulling her legs under her on the couch.
"Just tired. The first time I did an entire training again after..."
She shrugs and takes a sip of her drink. Kissing his cheek gently and smiling reassuringly.
"Don't worry. I'm fine. Just a little tired."
Carefully he lets his fingers run through her hair. It's slowly growing back again.
"Nick?"
He hums softly.
"Do you know how much I love you?"
Smiling he nods and kisses her.
-
He curls up behind her, wrapping an arm around her waist, his head resting against hers.
Her breathing is calm and regular. She fell asleep the moment she got in her bed. And he can't blame her. Training was tiresome for him, he knows it must have been exhausting for her.
Sighing happily he inches yet a little closer. No more chemo. No more cancer. No more...
"Told you we would make it."
Gently he kisses her shoulder, careful not to wake her up.
Closing his eyes, he waits for sleep to catch up with the swirling thoughts in his mind.
"Yeah, we did."
He smiles when he hears her whisper back. And carefully he holds her a little closer to him.
"Sorry."
She makes a sound, half-asleep, and he figures it was meant to be a question.
"For waking you up when snuggling close to you."
"I'm still asleep."
The comment makes him smile broadly and once more he places a kiss on her shoulder.
"Love you Nick."
He whispers in her ear. "I love you too."
