He’d suspected, of course—they’d all suspected, it was sort of an open secret—but it wasn’t until Tana was standing over him with the knife that he really believed it.
And they call me dissolute?
He would have laughed, if he hadn’t been fairly certain it would hurt like hell, the way she’d torn into his gut. Kellom, perfect, straight-laced, pole-up-his-ass Kellom carrying on an affair with…
She was fading in front of him, fading into a little girl with soft brown curls and dancing blue eyes, tormenting Andrell and chasing after her older siblings. Even now, it was hard to think of her as grown up.
The knife was pretty strong evidence of that, though.
She twisted it, and he lost all thoughts of Kellom’s secret imperfection, of his baby sister back when she’d been cute, and prayed that she didn’t come after his kids.
…gods help any she has, he thought, muzzily, then he lost track of that, and everything, drowning in shock and blood.
