Summary: Nick hearing Tina speak ill over Freya
Notes: Constructive criticism is, as always, welcome
"I swear it's true."
The others, standing around Tina, look up at her in surprise, eyes wide open.
"It can't be. Freya would never do such a thing..."
Tina snorts.
"I swear it's true. You know... You all think of her as such a good sweet girl that never breaks any rules. But... She's not. She's far from that image even."
The whispers amongst the girls grow louder and no one notices how Tina smirks evilly.
"I can't believe it... Not Freya. That's impossible..."
"But if Tina swears it, she won't be making this up."
"I wonder what will be next?"
"Gosh, I'm really disappointed."
They didn't notice Nick coming closer. Hadn't known he was there all along. Around the corner, talking with a friend. Until he heard a familiar voice. Until he heard Tina telling lies about Freya.
"So am I..."
Surprised they all turn around. Shocked. And, ashamed that he has apparently heard them.
"You really believe those tales?"
The girls look at each other, gazes moving around, eyes meeting eyes and going on to meet other eyes. But they all avoid him.
"I thought you knew Freya. Knew her better than anyone else."
He balls his fists and shakes his head. Turning around to look at Tina. There is a victorious look in the girl's eyes. Defiance. And yet deep down, Nick can see a trace of fear when her eyes shift to his balled hands.
"Why?"
He sees how she bites her lip. Only for a second. But he's seen it.
"Because it's the truth. I've heard her say it, I've heard her admit it. It's only right her friends know that little detail. It's about time they get to know her how she really is, instead of keeping that innocent image you all have of her."
Once more Nick shakes his head.
"You don't know what you are talking about."
There is such pain and sadness in his eyes that it even makes Tina look up in surprise.
"Why don't you just leave her alone Tina? You've always bullied her. Always. But why? What has she ever done wrong to you?"
He takes a deep breath. Knowing he will not get an answer.
"Just... Just leave her alone Tina. She doesn't deserve this. She has gone through enough."
Without another word, without another glance, he walks away. Hearing the whispers rise again behind his back.
