Summary: Helene's old nightmares come true.

Cities burned for twenty years in Helene's dreams before Honningstrand ignited, and the reality was worse than the promise. There curled the mother, trapped with her son, as she'd dreamed at seven. There burned the shipyards, sacked only this one day in their vast history.

It was drearily similar to unwrapping her naming day presents before the actual day. Helene left Honningstrand dying behind her, looking back only to spit a mouthful of ashes upon the broiled remains of an animal. Or perhaps a child. Helene had never been able to spot the difference.

It had barely been worth expending the match.

This line literally made me shiver. The way this scene is described is lovely. It feels oddly chilling to be inside Helene's head during this.

Helene is terrifying. It's like... she's not upset because the city burned, she's upset because it's... boring, because she's been seeing it before in her dreams. Deeply creepy. And A+ use of the Mouse Grey prompt.

Helene is like the phrase "tragedy is when I stub my toe, comedy is when you fall into an open manhole and die" taken to extremes. Good to know I appear to be writing her that way believably.
