Characters: Deva, Rema, Sorell, Keta, Sola, Kellom, Mellir, Andrell, Tana, Isshiri

Notes: Constructive criticism welcome, as always. This takes place in an alternate 986 FY.
1. the little mermaid
Deva knew that the captive prince was dangerous, like stepping on a piece of glass and watching the wound fester and eat you alive—but, like stepping on a piece of glass, he might rather be a warning finally heeded, and she had to hope he would be.
2. the snow queen
When she found out, Rema was furious—not that the boy was in the city, she knew Amassa had sent a high-ranked investigator—but that Sorell had identified him before she had, and now held him, and she couldn’t use him as he needed to be used.
3. the emperor’s new clothes
Whether he liked it or not, whether the arrest was justified or not, Sorell was now in all probability facing a long, bloody war with the City of Glass—well, it had been coming, to an extent, for a few years, and even if the young man was an unsuitable envoy…well, all he could do was try to soften the blow, with the minimal forewarning he’d been given.
4. princess and the pea
Keta just wished she could do more with the tightly-controlled panic that was slowly making its way through the court; but all she could do was remain on hand, ready to help when her particular talents were called for, and despair for the future.
5. the nightingale
Unlike her father and sisters, Sola had not yet given up on diplomacy—she immediately set to running through her contacts in the embassies they received from various nations that were friendly with the City of Glass, and began to set out her careful feelers; chances were, with her charm and the fact that Glass had fired the first metaphorical shot, sending the young prince here, she could still finagle a nonviolent resolution.
6. steadfast tin soldier
So there would be war, at last—Kellom found himself relieved, as much as one could be; as they were not the aggressors in this conflict, there would be no quibbling over politics or morals—his people would clearly in the right when the inevitable declaration came.
7. ugly duckling
It was a little bizarre, Mellir thought, to have this much positive attention thrown at him—well, not entirely positive, but at least he wasn’t the direct cause of the negative aspects—not that he was complaining; bizarre it might be, but in an entirely pleasant way.
8. little match girl
This, Andrell knew, was going to smash all to pieces the delicate wickerwork bridges the Movement had managed to build towards change—and maybe, even probably, that was a good thing long-range, but it wouldn’t keep the splinters out of people’s eyes in the short term.
9. wild swans
Tana was ready to see blood, more than ready—if she could, she would have gotten to the freak and ended it, just to bring it that much faster, let them come; of course, Kellom would think that dangerous, so she held off, but oh how she wanted to do it.
10. red shoes
When they came to move him, he thought he was prepared; when the drug sent him slithering down to darkness, he began to realize he might be in over his head; when he woke in a too-large room with prickles down his spine and fire that wouldn’t come, he knew he would never complete his mission.
