isana, who asked: Kristie, is there any reason why you're so mean and angry with everyone?
Excuse me, mean and angry? I’m not mean and angry.
I make fun of people sometimes, I guess. Stupid people.
A lot of people are stupid. Or boring. Or stuck up.
Like, there was this girl in my class last year, Mindy. She thought she was better than everyone else because her dad is a bank manager and her family had money. She liked to talk a lot about all the vacations she went on, to like other states and things, and one time Canada. She called us stupid because we’d never been anywhere on vacation.
All her clothes every year were brand new, not even handed down from her older sister. She got to wear makeup to school. She had her own bedroom and her own phone line, and she only invited over people she said were decent.
She told me I wasn’t decent, that I had raggy clothes and gross hair.
So I punched her in her stupid smug face.
I do not have gross hair.
I got detention for the rest of the week, and then my parents grounded me for another two.
Worth it, though. Mindy never got up in my face again.
Then there was Bobby. Bobby was poor like us, but he was just straight up stupid. He talked about my sister a lot, about the things he’d do to her if he could. He was always staring at her ass. Sam pretended she didn’t notice, because she was way older than Bobby anyway, but sometimes she wouldn’t walk to school with me if she knew we were probably going to run into Bobby.
He was bigger than me, only one year away from high school, but I’m not scared of anybody. Me and some friends cornered him after school one day, and I told him to leave my sister the hell alone. He laughed and asked what a little girl was going to do to him.
I showed him.
I got hit, too. He got my nose bloody and knocked a tooth loose, and this time I got grounded for a whole month and my mom had to take me to the dentist. I felt bad about that because she really can’t afford the dentist, but I gave Bobby a black eye and that was worth it.
I wish I could say he stopped after that, but he still said gross things about my sister. But Sam went to college the next year, anyway, so I guess at least she’s not around for him to leer at anymore. One day I’m gonna jump him again, though. When he least expects it.
He deserves it.
Then there’s these two girls here at the resort with me. Cassie and Sherri. Cassie’s rich and stuck up (she pretends she isn’t, but her room is one of the nice ones all the rich people stay in), and Sherri’s stupid and boring, always going on about what her mom thinks. She reminds me of Mindy except not rich. Cassie’s not like Mindy, but she’s weird. I can’t figure out what her deal is, and that makes me mad. Wouldn’t it make anyone mad?
Usually I wouldn’t hang out with them. But they’re the only girls my age even here, so I do. I’d have to hang out with Sam if I didn’t, and she’s just a big crybaby these days. I think she’d rather be at her big fancy college than here with us, so as far as I’m concerned she’s gotten just as stuck up as Mindy. I wouldn’t hit her, though. I mean, she’s my sister.
Honestly, this resort kind of blows. Can’t wait to get back home. Maybe this is the year I get Bobby back for good.
