Summary: Colette can face down danger, but asking Elina to be her mate? Toughest thing ever.
Warnings: none except tooth rotting fluff
Notes: So I'm working on my challenge and I hope that I can actually finish it. Colette is Bernard's older sister they're two years apart. I mentioned her once in this piece and figured I should flesh her out more. Comments are welcomed! Please let me know if I've done something wrong.

Colette grumbled as she looked for her hairpin. Can I be any more nervous?

It took her hours to find the ring and the pendant she picked out for Elina, then another few minutes to find her shoes and dress for the evening. She almost tripped down the steps and couldn’t find her purse in the closet. She walked in the living room and plopped down on the couch. Colette wasn’t this nervous during her training or when her pet dragon threw a fit, but asking Elina to be her mate caused her to forget everything.

“Hey I found your purse!” Bernard said as he walked in the room. He frowned as he saw Colette on the couch with her head in her hands. He took a seat on the arm of the couch. “What’s wrong? Isn’t your date in a few minutes?”

Colette looked up as she nodded. “It is, but I can’t stop thinking. What if she says no? What if she thinks she doesn’t fit in with our family? What if I’m moving too fast?”

“Elina sat through Ray’s book review and when Lance explained his favorite human classical song. Sofie doesn’t scare her, mom loves her, dad loves her, me and Bijou love her. I don’t think you have much to worry about.”

“Yeah, but people’s feelings can change right? I don’t even know how to do it. How did you do it?”

Bernard hummed as he messed with his pendant. “I asked her after we made up from this big fight--”

“I remembered that. You were miserable for like three weeks.”

“I wasn’t that bad.”

Colette looked at him in disbelief. Bernard waved it away. “Yeah, yeah I know, well anyway during those three weeks I thought a lot about her and how we fit. I knew I wanted to be with her and make things right. We made up and I asked her. Well, I asked her properly later on, but I did it. I was nervous, really nervous, but I knew that I didn’t want to be without her, you know?”

Colette giggled. “Aww, you two are so cute, but I can understand. I feel the same way about Elina.”

Bernard smiled. “Then I’m sure you’ll find a way to do it.”

Colette nodded. “You’re right. I just hope things go alright.”

“I’m sure it will. At least you didn’t forget your stuff in a book like Ray.” Bernard said as he handed her, her purse.

Colette laughed. “Yeah that’s true.” She checked the clock in the living room and stood up. “Well, time for me to go.”

“Have fun, tell Elina I said hi.”

“Tell Alene the same thing.”

Bernard waved and walked out the room. Colette walked out into the hallway and over to the mirror on the wall. She made sure no strands of hair stuck out and she didn’t smudge her makeup. She smoothed out any wrinkles in her red dress and adjusted her bra. After her quick inspection, she nodded at her reflection and walked out the door.

*~*~*

Colette placed a reservation at one of Elina’s favorite restaurants in Alu. Elina looked beautiful in a sleeveless black dress with her hair pinned up in an elegant style. Colette couldn’t take her eyes off the way her dress hugged her curves. Dinner went well as they talked about their days and their plans for the weekend.

Colette waited for the perfect opportunity to bring it up, but they passed with every conversation and basket of bread. She saw the way Elina eyed her as she finished off baskets with their food, but didn’t bring it up. Colette resisted the urge for more bread as she finished her meal. She ordered dessert and steeled her nerves when their waiter walked away.

Colette closed her mouth when Elina reached in her bag and pulled out a present wrapped in dark blue wrapping paper.

“What’s this?”

Elina smiled. “You won’t know until you open it!”

Colette smiled as she ripped the paper off. She gaped at the box in front of her. “I can’t believe you found this!”

“I remembered you mentioned this model robot you always wanted to build, but they didn’t have it in Alu. Well, I asked around and I found it! Do you like it?” Elina asked.

“Yes, yes I love it!” Colette said and turned the box around in her hands.

Her model collection was a human activity that baffled her parents, but amused her siblings and friends. Some of her last relationships didn’t understand it. She remembered a few arguments over her reasons behind her hobby that sometimes didn’t end very well, but Elina understood. She understood many things.

Colette smiled as she placed the box aside. She knew she found her moment.

“Elina, I have a surprise for you.”

“You do?”

“Yep.” Colette took a small breath and reached inside her clutch. She placed two boxes on the table and took Elina’s hands in her own. “Elina, I-I had this elaborate speech for you, but when I try to start it I feel like I did when we first met and I ate all that cotton candy. So, before I end up ordering another dessert, will you be my mate?”

Elina smiled wide as she squeezed her hands. “Yes I will!”

Colette grinned as she walked over and placed the jewelry on Elina. She kissed the ring, then the pendant, she moved back to see how they looked when Elina pulled her up for a kiss. Colette wrapped her arms around her waist and pulled her close. She did it, she asked Elina to be her mate. She couldn’t wait to start her life with the woman she loved.

Colette hoped the wedding would be smoother.
