He had plenty of reasons to want to go to gay clubs and gay bars when he was old enough, with or without Miss Chloe beside him. The one he kept between himself and God was that they would also be full of temptations. It was up to Jax to keep His word, and he had promised his mother that he wouldn't lose his faith.

That was why, no matter how pretty or handsome a person, he would only accept offers to dance. And no matter how good of a dancer they were, he never accepted the offers to see a back room, or spend the night, or even go out on a date as rare as the question was. He never accepted offers of a drink, even when he worked behind the bar, and he never took an offer of drugs, no matter how many times the pretty boys promised it would make it feel so much better.

It was hard at times, and sometimes incredibly easy. There were times he came close to telling God that he would accept any punishment, if just for tonight… And he knew it was time to leave, because that wasn't how deals worked, especially with the Almighty. Those were the nights he stayed up praying for forgiveness as well as to maybe just bump into another nice country boy on the street. There were nights when absolutely nobody offered to use a condom, and those were the nights he stayed up praying for others, and maybe asking Him to help some people learn common sense or at least a sense of self-preservation.

Perhaps the hardest part was figuring out answers to the question of why. Why not, why not me, why didn't you say yes to me, to him, to that guy? His deal was with God and God only, but it was still easy to say that he was waiting for marriage, which quickly ended most conversations. It wasn't exactly true, and he confessed his sins about that quite a bit, to the amusement of his pastor. It had only been a couple of years prior that Jax had confessed to not really waiting for marriage at all. But those boys were in the past, and the men in the present just… were not.

Eventually, after seeing Miss Chloe with Kurt, and even Faith with Piper, he thought that maybe all this time was a sign from God that the bars and clubs weren't the way for him to go. After that, he prayed for God to show him a sign on what path he should follow, if he wanted to find someone to spend his life with.

He honestly didn't know why he was surprised when God led him back to Georgia.
