Notes: Saw the yarn and Lars spoke up.

"Do you see it?" Papa asks, and he nods, fascinated. "That's the North Star. If you're ever lost, that is how you get home."

"I find the North Star," he says, and Papa nods, smiles.

"You find the North Star and you follow it north, as far as you can go. We will find you, my son. Go north, and you will always come home in the end."

The memory burns now, a sharp-edged open wound where that child's faith once lay. He never once questioned what home was, then.

Now he finds the North Star, and turns resolutely south.

Oh, lord. That contrast between the warm childhood memory and his loss of home in the present hurts real sharp.

And that's the second time this afternoon you made me go whump.

But the art in your whump.

Makes it all worth it.
