Notes: Marie-Amelie is the sixteen year old daughter and successor to Rene IV of Iberte who himself was the son of Rene III and his wife, Princess Amelie of Monde. Marie-Amelie's mother is Emilia de Caulmont, a member of the prominent Caulmont family. Marie-Amelie became queen after her father was killed in a joust celebrating her birth.

This was...quite the scene.

Emil had walked into the council room expecting his usual grouchy comrades complaining about ridiculous start times. But oh no, not today.

His men were laughing and talking amongst themselves and it was clear to see why.

The Queen was entertaining them.

“Ah so you arrive, Abbing!” Marie-Amelie said in a happy tone. “My councilors tell me you make them get up absurdly early.”

“Indeed he does, Your Majesty,” his right hand man said. “I'm quite surprised he was late today.”

Marie-Amelie grinned jauntily. “Perhaps he was spending time with my mother?”

“Well the Queen Dowager is still quite beautiful just like her daughter,” Brochier said.

Marie-Amelie laughed. “You flatter me so.”

Emil cleared his throat. “Why are you here, Your Majesty? We have no need of you today.”

“Yes, I'm sure you don't Abbing,” Marie-Amelie said rubbing her hands together. “But as I am about to reach my majority in about nine months time, I thought it was time I learned to run my own kingdom.”

Emil sighed. The young queen was fairly itching to exercise her power.

“In due time, I shall teach you.”

Marie-Amelie stood. She smiled at the councilors around the table before walking over to Emil.

“I suggest you remember Abbing that I am the queen. You may have married a queen, but you are far from being a king.”

Emil smiled slightly at his queen. “And might I tell you, little queen. That though you were the crown, I hold the true power.”

A smile spread over Marie-Amelie's face. “Yes, but not for long.”

With that the queen left swept out of the room. Emil sighed deeply. He feared the day that she turned 17. The country was certainly in store for something, but he wasn't sure what.

Marie-Amelie has a point. She is the queen, even if Abbing is currently acting as regent. It's not up to him how she exercises her power, and if he wants her to be an effective ruler she should learn sooner than later.

An explosion, I think-- especially if Marie-Amelie isn't allowed to hold the reins of power once in a while. Then she'll have no idea what she's doing, and she'll be so determined to get out from under the thumb of her Regents that she'll do exactly the wrong thing to spite them. I hope Emil learns better...
