Warnings: Mentions of death of a family member.
Notes: Elisabeth has been betrothed to King Fernando VII of Albabias. Along with the people of her household, she is being chaperoned by three of her uncles. Pierre is one of them.
“So they killed your sister?” The man next to him said.
Pierre nodded. His head was cloudy and his mouth was heavy.
“But why did they kill her?”
Pierre turned to the man, his name was Abilo or something like that, Pierre couldn’t remember.
“Because she was a threat or because she couldn’t fucking have a son. It isn’t important anymore. They killed her and now they want to pretend like it didn’t happen and they want me to break my promise to her to protect her girls!”
Pierre hiccuped and leaned to the side. He and Princess Elisabeth’s entourage had arrived on Albabian soil a day ago. Jean Luc wanted to wait and let King Fernando’s people come meet them here in this town, while Prince Andre wanted move ahead to the capital. Pierre didn’t care either way. He’d left the camp after he was sure Elisabeth was asleep. It hurt to look at her, she reminded him of Anna.
“So did they have any evidence against her?”
“What?”
“Your sister, what evidence did they have against her?”
Pierre scratched his head. “The biggest bullshit I ever heard. It was ridiculous. I just…”
“Just what?”
“I don’t understand how they pardoned me, but not her,” Pierre said quietly.
Abilo slapped Pierre on the back. “Sounds like Monde is quite the place. Who did you say you were?”
Pierre drained the rest of his wine. He stood up and shook his head.
“Just a Mondian on his way through,” Pierre said.
