Can I have a sculpture tag?
Freya and Nick smile when they see the faces of their friends. Shocked. Impressed. Shocked…
True. Risa is crazy. Certainly around Halloween. The cauldron on the table, steaming. Her father, dressed up as a skeleton. Her mother, dressed up as a witch. Complete with wrath and black fingernails and greasy hair and cackling voice. The entire house covered in cobwebs, filled with spiders and bats and pumpkin lanterns and skeletons.
“Welcome to my humble home fella’s. Welcome, welcome.”
Her laugh echoes through the room. It even makes Freya shiver a little.
"Take a seat boys. Take a seat..."
There is something incredibly scary in Risa's voice. A little threatening. It makes her daughter roll her eyes before she lightly punches her mother's shoulder. The look she shoots her says everything.
"What?"
Risa's normal voice.
"It's Halloween. And you know what that means... Despite your friends coming over, I am the walrus. I mean witch!"
It's an inside joke between Freya and her mother and her father. No one understands the meaning of the exclamation and why the three of them burst out in a clear laughter. And no one receives an answer when they ask.
They all turn questioning eyes upon Nick. But he has to helplessly admit his unknowing. Because even after spending Halloween at this house for years, not even Nick knows what it is about. Even though it is a sentence that returns every year. Even though he has asked a couple of times already.
Nick smiles and shakes his head when he sees the radiant smile on Freya’s face. Deciding it doesn't really matter.
