The sky deepened into darkness, the orange sun sinking into blue twilight, fireflies drawing abstract pictures against the deeper blackness of the trees and the river. Clara snuggled into Aaron's side, and picked up the pitcher he'd brought out. "Want more lemonade?"
He shook his head, his chin brushing her hair. "No, I'm good. The fireworks should start any minute."
She set the pitcher down and wound her hand into his, tilting her head back to look at the stars. "This was a good idea," she said, squeezing his hand. "Thank you."
"It's just fireworks," he said, and she knew he was blushing.
She smiled, turned to kiss his shoulder. "It's more than that," she started, but just then a burst of red and green exploded above the treeline, followed by orange and blue, purple and yellow, sparks falling to earth like tiny jewels, or shooting stars. She gave up trying to talk, and nestled closer, gasping as a silver-gold starburst showered light over the trees.
It was so much more than just fireworks.
But she could tell him later.

I love the imagery in this piece and how it highlights Aaron and Clara's affection. Lovely job.
